Our Teachers

All of the teachers at Music Together With Sonia are passionate about music - and more importantly about supporting your child's musical journey. During their classes, they create a fun, informal, musically rich social setting that supports the varied learning styles of both children and adults. All of our teachers have successfully completed the three-day Music Together® teacher training workshop developed by the Center for Music and Young Children®, Princeton, New Jersey and many have participated in Music Together’s Advanced Certification Program.

Born and raised in Catalonia (Spain), Sonia developed very early on a deep passion for music. She started playing the piano at age 8 and joined the local Music Conservatory. Following her love for music and education she pursued a Bachelor Degree in Music Education from the University Rovira i Virgili in Tarragona. After she married and moved to Germany, she became a Berlitz Certified Language Teacher, where, among other classes, she taught at the Frankfurt stock exchange and at the Volkshochschule.  Sonia started taking classes of Music Together with her 2 kids in New Jersey in 2001 and eventually became a certified MT-Teacher. She has led MT classes in New Jersey, Florida and now Maryland for the last 15 years. She truly loves her job and she feels very fortunate to do what brings her the most joy.  She is passionate about building the musical foundation for young children and creating a bridge to help my families make musical memories at home.

Liz Mulligan has been teaching Music Together classes locally since 2014. Liz discovered Music Together as a parent when her oldest daughter was 10 months old. She quickly fell in love with the program. Besides having a great time singing, dancing and making music with her children in class and at home (which she did!) Liz also recognized the richness within the Music Together curriculum, phylosophy and teaching design. When the prospect arose to become a Music Together instructor herself, Liz jumped at the opportunity to go through the certification process. Liz loves working with families to help create a musically rich experience both in the classroom and at home, and is excited to share her love for the Music Together program with all of you!

Liz holds a Bachelor of Science in Speech from Northwestern Univeristy, where she studied music and theater, is an experienced elementary classroom teacher, and holds a Master of Education in Curriculum and Design from National Louis University. Liz also ran the educational, vocational and enrichement programming for Mercy Home for Boys and Girls (a therapeutic residential home for youth) in Chicago. As a vocalist, Lis has sung with the National Cathedral Society in Washington DC, performs as a soloist perodocally throughout the area, and sings regularly at her church.

Lisa Fruth is excited to join the Music Together community.  With both of her parents having their PhDs in Music, she was immersed in music growing up.  She started Suzuki Violin at age 5 and studied piano until graduating from high school.  She realized her passion for voice with her participation in choral groups in high school and college.  She has since continued with that passion participating in choral groups at the Library of Congress, University of Maryland Summer Choral Institute, and Montgomery College.  She received both her B.S. in Computer Science and M.A. in Education from the University of Maryland.  She has taken private vocal lessons for around 15 years and recently completed the requirements for a Music Certificate in vocal performance at Montgomery College.  She has performed with the Capitol Carollers in private and pubic venues around the D.C. area during the holiday seasons.

Lisa completed her Music Together certification in July 2023 and enjoys working with young children and their parents.  She is really excited to inspire kids with her love of music.
